With our love of nature and the great outdoors it's really no wonder that the hue of green is starting to trend in a big way in our interiors. And Pantone (the US colour gurus) have declared that foliage-based Kale Green (yes, it's not just a food trend!) will be one of the colours of the year for 2017.  

Evocative of tranquility and a healthy lifestyle, green hues are part of the trend for us to escape our hectic, technology-bound lives and reconnect with nature. Pantone describe the colour Kale as "taking a breath of fresh air" and "immersing yourself in nature" - and that's got to be a good thing!  

Read on for 5 ways to embrace the green scene.

1. NEUTRAL'S PERFECT PARTNER

Just as we see in nature, these lush green shades, are the perfect complement to the neutral shades we are drawn to in New Zealand. They provide the perfect pop of colour to complement the rattan, timber and woven elements we've been loving lately.

2. SCANDI LUXE

Greens paired with metallics, furs, leathers and timbers give a more luxe vibe to the Scandinavian look. Anchor the scheme with crisp whites and muted greys.

3. A MASCULINE TAKE

Black accents throughout the space, contrasting against the raw, natural materials, gives the look an urban, masculine edge. 

4. GREEN THUMB

An indoor plant is the simplest way to add a pop of gorgeous green to your space. Even a vase of Monsterra leaves will provide a lush touch. There's also an abundance of foliage inspired prints. My fave is this amazing floor to ceiling padded bedhead in Christians Lacroix's Jardin Exo'Chic Bouganinvillier fabric. Wow!

5. LUSH ACCENT

Fresh greens can be introduced as accessories. Or create more impact with a forest green sofa. Green furnishings will contrast beautifully with crisp white walls and natural timber, like in this sophisticated room.

Pantone's predictions are usually pretty accurate - their 2016 colour of the year, Rose Quartz, has seen shades of blush everywhere. So watch out for green to take centre stage - from clothing, to buildings, to our interiors. You heard it here first!
