KIRSTEN FORD Founder, Design Director
Kirsten is passionate about infusing everyday life with style and edge.
Time spent living and working in Europe and subsequently building two family homes inspired her to pursue a lifelong obsession with design, launching her own interior designer business in 2016 and quickly establishing a reputation for creating bespoke, modern interiors. Her signature style is both contemporary and classic, always detail driven and executed to perfection.
A 15-year career in corporate marketing saw Kirsten develop a critical eye for design, attention to detail and thorough project management skills, which has transposed to a clear, concise design process for all her projects. She completed a diploma of Interior Design from New Zealand’s Interior Design Institute in 2015 and her work has been awarded both locally and internationally, including selection to travel to the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan. Her projects and commentary have been published in NZ House & Garden, Home, M2 Woman, NZ Kitchens & Bathrooms, Stuff and more.
A FULL DESIGN SERVICE
Trusted by Auckland home owners, we’re the professional interior designers who combine creative flair with a clear and proven design process. We start with a consultation and a style concept. Then come selections and procurement and detailed documentation. We stay until your home is finished.
WHAT WE DO FOR OUR CLIENTS
Phase 1: Style Concept
A visual presentation of our approach and design direction, building on the architect’s concept and vision. Including colour palette, reference imagery and key materials to create a visual language for the home.
Phase 2: Specifications
We work directly with the client, in consultation with the architect, builder and trades, to recommend and select specific finishes, fixtures and fittings for both the exterior and interior of a home.
We know what works, what’s available, what the lead times are and the best options for the budget. Working within the wider context of the home to ensure a cohesive scheme is created.
Full specifications documentation are provided, accompanied by any design documentation, including drawings, renders and/or elevations.
Phase 3: Furniture & Furnishings
We source and select everything that goes in the home. Furniture, fabrics and window treatments are specified for each space, then the finishing layer: cushions, artwork, linen and accessories.
We plan the space first, then manage the ordering and delivery for you.
WHERE WE WORK
KFD Interiors is based on Auckland’s North Shore and works with clients right across greater Auckland, including Takapuna, Devonport, Matakana, Herne Bay, Remuera and St Heliers, as well as the Coromandel, Queenstown and Wanaka.
If you’re comparing residential interior designers in Auckland or considering working with a home interior designer to transform or create your home, book a consultation to talk through your project with us.
FAQs
-
As a interior designer, we plan the whole interior, not only the colours. Space and flow come first. Then joinery and lighting, then materials, finishes and furniture. Styling is the last layer.
KFD Interiors gets involved at the early design stage and stays until the selections are made and everything’s installed. The house you move into should be the one you planned.
-
What an interior designer costs in Auckland depends on how big the job is and how much of it you want handed over. A single design consultation sits at one end. A full new build, with selections and procurement on top, sits at the other.
We scope the project, then put a proposal in front of you with the services and fees laid out. Our Design Services page shows what each stage covers.
-
You don’t have to use an interior designer for a new build. But the earlier we’re involved, the easier the job gets.
We work with your architect and builder while decisions are still easy to change: kitchen and bathroom layouts, joinery, lighting. Leave it until the frame’s up and some of those calls get expensive. Start early and each room is planned as part of the whole house, not on its own.
-
Every project is different.
Weeks for a smaller job, months for a bigger one. A furnishing or single-room project is usually quick. A renovation or new build takes as long as the construction programme does, often several months.
Before we start, we set the scope, key stages and expected timing with you.
-
Yes. Not every project means a whole house. A living room, a bedroom, a home office, any one space can be the job.
You decide how far we go. Some people only want a design consultation. Others bring us in for furnishing and styling, or for a fully detailed room design. We set the scope around the space and what you need from us.
-
Yes, and the earlier the better. We regularly work with architects, architectural designers, builders and kitchen designers, plus other specialists when a project needs them.
