If last year taught us anything it was the value of our homes as a sanctuary from a crazy world.
And it also perhaps taught us to enjoy the moment - even to indulge in a little splurge on something we love - just because we can.

Art
Art evoking memories of special times & places
Art is very personal and often reflects a special place or occasion. Don’t feel daunted - the artwork doesn’t need to be famous or fancy - just special to you. And remember, this is a splurge that can actually increase in value over time.
Sofas
Invest in lounging
If there’s one thing I tell clients not to skimp on it’s their sofas. These are something you use every day so I recommend clients go for the highest quality their budget allows for. Sofas should be investment pieces that are made to last for at least 10 years to your exact comfort specifications. Your sofa should be crafted from high quality materials and the very best fabrics - preferably here in New Zealand.
Cushions
Like candy to be sprinkled liberally
Cushions can be the perfect finishing touch to a room - like beautiful mini artworks. But mixing different colours, patterns and sizes stylishly is an art in itself!
To style your cushions like a pro, start from the outside and work your way in:
1: Place the two largest, matching cushions on the outer edges of the sofa
2: The next two matching cushions should overlap the outer two
3: Then finish off with a single accent cushion
TREASURES
Treasure your treasures
Don't hide away those special treasures and heirloom furniture. Adding items to a room that have a story, history or that you have an emotional connection with is what makes a room special, unique and yours.
Feature lighting
Like jewellery for your room.
Unique and beautiful lighting accents can transform a space. And don’t forget table lamps - a substantial ceramic or glass lamp will never go out of style, and can dress up any room instantly.
Books
Inspiring dreams, adventures & tomorrows.
In terms of décor, one of the most versatile items you can buy is a book. Books always create an elevated and finished space. When purchasing books with interior design in mind, I tend to lean toward the following subjects: art, photography, and design. As far as aesthetics, hardbacks with thick spines always present well. With regard to colour, I generally work within the colour scheme of the room.
Statement Pieces and Accessories
A la vie!
Statement pieces (functional or otherwise) are worth splurging on. These are the items that make a home wonderfully unique, and they can turn into things you pass on to loved ones down the line. They can hold value, and they don’t tend to incur a ton of wear and tear. Accessories warm up the space and give the home life.
