DESIGN EDIT ISSUE 32 | DESIGN TOUR
With sightlines over a tree-filled park, to the ocean and horizon beyond, this apartment lives and breathes it’s surroundings. The near new apartment had an inherited scheme from the developer so Kirsten Ford Design was engaged to create a more personalised home, with a sophisticated coastal feel that avoided all the usual seaside stereotypes.
THE BRIEF
The client visualised an apartment that linked to the views beyond - a home which balanced a sophisticated coastal feel with an authentic and timeless interior.
INSPIRATION
A palette of teales, blues and silvered greys was inspired by the ocean views. But the sense of serenity the view evokes was also a key point of inspiration.
DESIGN DETAILS
New pendant lighting over the kitchen island and dining table was key to creating a more personal look. We added a hand-made finger tile to the splashback and island front, covering the generic glass splashback. Both these elements add beautiful natural texture and warmth to the space.
Layering furniture, fabrics and accessories in natural timbers, ocean tones and silvered greys creates a sophisticated coastal feel. By carrying the same colour palette through to the outdoors, we’ve helped to blur the lines between inside and out.
INSIDE EDGE
Custom colouring the lacquered furniture has created pieces which are completely unique and special. We spent time choosing the perfect colour, opting for a muted, gentle slate blue.
THE RESULT
The completed apartment is one that feels like it is a part of its natural surrounds. The colour and material palette mirrors the coastal outlook, resulting in a visual flow that is as serene as it is beautiful. And providing the absolutely perfect spot for an afternoon gin and tonic!
