TIMELESS ELEGANCE
It's an honour to work with all our clients, but bringing to life this substantial renovation was a super special project for Kirsten Ford Design. This family undertook a significant rebuild to transform a tired 1920's bungalow into a stylish, forever family home in Auckland's Remuera. As the building work neared completion, the busy professional couple approached Kirsten Ford Design to create the interiors for this home.
THE BRIEF
The client dreamt of an effortlessly elegant home, one that would stand the test of time and be highly liveable and welcoming for their children, their many friends and the extended family who often stay. We first created an overall vision for the interior to ensure that there was continuity of style throughout the sprawling home. We then sourced furniture and furnishings to create a clean, modern aesthetic, with timeless appeal.

COLLABORATORS
Scarlet Architects did an impressive job preserving the original style of the home, while creating renovations and a sizeable extension to cater for the demands of a busy, modern family. One of the greatest successes of the renovation is the incredible flow to an outdoor room from the kitchen and living area. A stunning entertainer's kitchen and all the bathrooms were designed and created by Fyfe Kitchens. Lush landscaping completed the home.
INSPIRATION
A palette of muted blues, silvered greys and olive greens was inspired by the views from the family room, through the new gardens to the pool beyond.
“It was important for us to start a project of this size with a clear vision to ensure there was visual continuity through the home. I strongly believe that while different spaces should be distinct, they should all be chapters of the same story for a more pleasing sense of connectedness.”
DESIGN DETAILS
Crisp white walls were balanced with a custom-mixed floor stain that was the perfect shade of walnut brown. Muted olive green feature walls provide contrast. Custom furnishings feature throughout to create a home that's uniquely special, including hand blown glass pendants, custom designed wool and silk rugs, furniture and soft furnishings. Lush velvet accents are mixed with high performance fabrics for a home that will withstand the demands of a busy family. Lush indoor plants create contrast and another pop of colour.

For a sizeable home, this project ran extremely smoothly. We had a clear vision from the outset which guided all our decision making along the way. And we had an amazing team of skilled craftspeople to make the bespoke creations, ensuring this home has it's own unique personality and style.
THE RESULT
The end result is special family home that we and our clients absolutely love. The home is effortlessly elegant with timeless style. A home which caters to demands of a busy, modern lifestyle, but also one which respects the heritage of this stately home.
