LIVING ROOM LAYERS
We wanted to show you a peek behind the scenes of how we created this ocean edge living room. Like every project, this space was created in layers. Layering adds warmth and interest to a space - and is a key way of stamping personality on a room, ensuring it tells the story of you.
1. THE BASE
In terms of surface area, the most dominant finishes in any room will be on your walls, floors and ceilings - so it’s essential to get these just right! In this case, the newly built apartment had an inherited scheme from the developer which was a neutral canvas and provided clean, contemporary backdrop for everything that followed. Walls were a shadowed white and the carpet a soft sand tone.
2. KEY PIECES
We then considered the big pieces of furniture - in this home we started with the sofa, opting for a soft grey leather that would wear well and wouldn’t date. Statement azure blue swivel chairs are a practical and stylish addition to the space. We added a coffee table, side tables and a console in different textures and materials to created balance and contrast in the space. A rug helped zone the area in the large open plan space, as well as adding warmth and more texture.
3. ACCESSORIES
Custom cushions add pattern and detail, softening the space and adding another layer. Accessories like books, artwork and trinkets should be things that you absolutely love, reflecting you and your story. In this space treasured pieces of art and glass sculpture collected on our clients’ travels personalise the room.
