OCEAN EDGE APARTMENT
Situated right on the ocean’s edge, this couple wanted to create a comfortable retreat with a relaxed but luxe feel.
THE BRIEF
The newly built apartment had an inherited scheme from the developer. Our clients engaged Kirsten Ford Design to create a look and feel for their holiday home which was more personal, incorporating much loved pieces of art while ensuring focus still remained on the incredible view beyond.
INSPIRATION
Drawing inspiration from the incredible sea view we worked to blur the lines between the outdoors and indoors with sophisticated shades of ocean blue and sand, with pieces of our clients’ art and glass sculpture providing depth and contrast.
DESIGN DETAILS
Layering was key in this home to add warmth and interest - as well as personalising the space to our clients, ensuring it told their story. Building on the neutral paint and carpet colours, we selected furniture and furnishings in classic styles and warm colours, with timber accents and textured finishes. Custom, New Zealand designed and made pieces combine with special Italian pieces. Linens, leather, wools and heavily textured weaves are layered in a mix of patterns, all echoing the ocean-side location.
INSIDE EDGE
In this large open plan space, zones were created for different seating areas for flexibly living, defined with rugs and furniture placement. We were very intentional with what we filled this space with - quality pieces over quantity and clutter, layers of textures and refined finishes, timeless and classic pieces.
THE RESULT
The finished apartment is a comfortably stylish retreat for this couple - a home that effortlessly combines beautiful furniture and furnishings with a relaxed feel echoing the ocean edge location, unique to our clients and their story.
